Bill Green has been a familiar face on Maine television for more than 40 years. It all began when he was a freshman at the University of Maine and got a job working behind the camera at WLBZ in Bangor. That’s when he decided to major in broadcasting.
His on-air career began at the same station when the news director gave him a shot at being a sportscaster. Today, Bill produces and hosts Bill Green’s Maine, which airs on NEWS CENTER Maine.
How did he get from reporting on sports to telling engaging stories about what makes Maine such a great place to live? What are some of the life lessons he learned along the way? Now that he’s 65, does he plan to retire? He reveals it all (and more) in this episode of Conversations About Aging.

Who’s next?
Conversations About Aging airs every other Monday. My next conversation is with B Joy Hare, a fascinating woman from Bath, Maine. She is 75 and is a life coach, artist, and writer.
If you have any suggestions for people I should consider interviewing or you’re aware of a helpful aging resource in your community, let me know. In addition to the podcast, I intend to blog about what various communities, organizations, and individuals are doing to provide age-friendly services, support, and connection here in Maine. The best way to get in touch is to send me an email. Thank you!
Please share the podcast with friends, family, on social media, everywhere. You’re also welcome to become a member of our Facebook group Conversations About Aging.
Curling!!! An Olympic sport….Belfast Curling Club is the only Dedicated ice curling facility in Maine. We are a fully volunteer run club that features league curling and invites curlers from all over the world to curl with us in a recreational and competitive situation. We are open to the public and invite folks to drop in and watch. Curling has a long tradition of being a gentleman sport full of tradition where sportsmanship is expected…no trash talk, no foul language (well we try!) All games start and end with a handshake and each game ends with a tradition known as broom stacking. Both teams congregate around a table and visit for an hour and chat. A great way to make friends and socialize during the dark winter months. We have curlers ranging in age from 9 years old in our youth program to 80+. Men and women, young and old, play competitively shoulder to shoulder. None having an upper hand. We have adaptive means to allow for curling with those with bad knees, backs etc. And yes! we even have a wheel chair curler. We host rentals as team building events….for businesses, schools etc. All volunteer run.
I’d love to have you come and experience “The Roaring Game” (nicknamed for the sound of the stones as they travel down the ice) It’s fun, it’s great exercise, great for socialization, and passes a very old traditional game through the ages.
Also very relevant to aging as a good part of our club is over 60 and have lost spouses, battled cancer, suffered injuries etc. Curling keeps them active, social, and provides a support group and an opportunity to have fun. Startup cost is minimal…we provide all equipment….membership is the only fee.
