A few days ago, I received an email from Malcolm Henderson. He found the Catching Health blog on Google and thought I might be interested in a book he wrote called “Granddad in the Back: A Guide to Adventurous Senior Living.” He told me that he was ” … born in 1933 but feel as though I am coming up on sixty and not eighty.”
Catching Health is a blog about general health and wellness, not aging, but I was curious so visited Malcolm’s web site. Among other things, I learned that he was originally from England and had been an art dealer in London. He emigrated to the United States in the late 70s and owned an art gallery in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. He now lives in Panama.
In addition to the book on aging — which I do plan to read — he’s written two books about Panama. He also has a blog called “My Two Cents.” The post he wrote about a hammock is why I’m telling you about Malcolm. You see, I love hammocks. This past Mother’s Day, my family put one up for me in the back yard.
Malcolm’s blog post was a video: “How to Get Into a Hammock.” Even though his is a Panama-style hammock and I think mine came from L.L. Bean, I enjoyed his video so much I decided to share it. The primary message — as far as I’m concerned anyway — is that no matter what style hammock you might have, you should spend some time in it every chance you can!
I might not have a water view like Malcolm does, but the view I do have from my hammock satisfies me quite nicely.
Do you have a hammock? When’s the last time you used it? If you don’t have one, how do you relax? You do find time to relax, I hope.

Ahhhhhh…hammock. I got one this summer. So far spent ONE luxurious afternoon in it, reading, dozing and just watching the breeze blow the trees and clouds around. I need another hammock date before it’s too late!
You owe it to yourself Charity. Even if you only get five minutes in your hammock, I guarantee it will make feel relaxed and happy. Go for it!
