In many discussions about managing stress in healthy ways I seldom hear mentioned the use of heat (in the form of a heating pad) which is known to relax tense muscles. You mentioned back pain as a symptom of stress. People also hold tension in their necks and can end up with a stiff neck when feeling stressed.
Trying to go to sleep with a thousand things on your mind can keep you awake in the night, making you tired the next day, and adding to the stress. A heating pad on the abdomen or especially on the feet can help you relax and go to sleep. A microwave heating pad is safe to take to bed — no worry of overheating.
Betsy, I thought you’d appreciate hearing that I snuggled up with a heating pad the other night and it worked!
