Ira Mandel, MD, MPH, Offers a Look at Palliative Medicine @ Camden Public Library | Camden | Maine | United States

Ira Mandel, MD, MPH, medical director of Pen Bay Healthcare’s Hospice and Palliative Care Program, will discuss the field of palliative medicine on Wednesday, November 20, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. at Camden Public Library. Marking National Hospice and Palliative Care Month, “Understanding Palliative Medicine” is part of Quarry Hill’s Adventures in Living Well series for adults age 55 and older.

A relative newcomer to the healthcare landscape, palliative medicine supports patients with chronic, life-limiting, and/or end-of-life illnesses such as cancer, congestive heart failure, COPD, ALS, MS, Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, Parkinson’s disease, and end-stage renal disease. Palliative medicine focuses on quality of life, pain and symptom control, and the emotional and spiritual aspects of advancing illness and often accompanies medical treatment.

Admission to Dr. Mandel’s presentation is free, but registration is required. To sign up, call Quarry Hill at 230-6114.
